Rio Triste, or 'Sad River', absolutely does not live up to its name. The only thing that makes this river sad is when you don't go there. It is one of the most popular attractions in the region. A wonderful place to relax and unwind. Ever dreamed of gently drifting with the river's current? This is not just any river. No! It features crystal-clear blue water, where sunlight leaves a golden glow on the surface. The banks are covered with a fairytale-like forest. There is also the pearly white sand on the bottom, and don't forget the freshwater stingrays! In short; a true paradise.
What does the day look like?
Upon arrival, the receptionist will, after a short check-in, hand over the mandatory life jacket and mandatory sandals, as well as the snorkeling set. The reception area has a changing room and toilets.
After a short walk through the open field, you arrive at the river. Here you can let yourself drift 1200 meters with the river. The river is one of the richest in the region in terms of the number of fish that live in it. In case of emergency, there are 4 'emergency exits' at various points along the bank.
The snorkeling lasts about an hour. This is more than enough to discover the waterfall and the pool, as well as the fish and enjoy the warm water that flows into the pool from below via a natural hot spring.
How do I book this tour?
The excursion must be booked through an authorized travel agency. Each group must be accompanied by a local guide. If you want to book this excursion, please contact us. For those who prefer an English-speaking guide, we recommend taking a look at one of the packages we offer, departing from Cuiabá. These packages include an interpreter and transportation.
Important to know
To protect the water as much as possible, it is forbidden to use sunscreen or mosquito repellent before entering the water. To protect yourself from the sun and mosquitoes, we therefore recommend wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt as well as leggings/long pants. There is a changing room at the reception.
There is no restaurant on site. Therefore, bring enough food and drink.
Time left?
Combine your visit to Rio Triste with an excursion to Aquario Encantado or a short visit to the water springs at one of the other locations.
